Details of the VoIP origination
VoIP has been in use for the just about two decades or so, but it has grown exponentially in the last five years. VoIP is an abbreviation for Voice over internet protocol, and refers to technology that has been used in the past to make calls over the internet. The first company to have made a product that used VoIP technology is believed to have been a company in Israel. The company, Vocaltec was founded in 1995. Initially, it only worked on personal computers (PCs) and would incorporate the use of the PC’s speakers in addition to the microphone available. Matter of fact, all VoIP functioned like this, and some still do to date, although it is obvious that this technology has been improved significantly.
At the onset, during the VoIP origination, calls could only be made from computer to computer, and this is in sharp contrast with the technology today. Consequently, it was possible to make phone calls from the computer to the phone. This permitted users to make calls to anyone anywhere in the world, but the catch was that this had to be done from a computer. Fast forward to today, and you can make VoIP calls from telephone to another. What has made this possible is the use of VoIP phones as well as adapters that use the same technology. The adapters work by enabling users to talk over their IP (internet protocol) with their present handsets.
VoIP phones on the other hand, have come a long way from what was used during the VoIP origination. While these phones look just like the traditional ones, the only difference is that they have the capacity to use internet connection. These significant strides have made it possible to have different providers, and has aided in improving the quality of services offered. Part of the reason for this may be attributed to the advent of broadband. The use of broadband has seen to it that VoIP has high quality. VoIP is today used to meet the communication needs both at the personal and corporate level.
